Roberston's Sportswear Classic; Booneville, MS

The Robertson's Sportswear Classic has taken claim as being one of the top one-day events in the state of Mississippi every year. The Classic is in its 20th year of existence and is only gaining steam according to the amount of teams already committed for next year.

The Classic had plenty of talent that made for some exciting games over the course of the day.

Tupelo High School (MS) and Lafayette High School (MS) was arguably the most exciting game of the day as the game was forced into overtime, with Tupelo winning 68-64. ETSU signee, Alayjah Sherer, had 29 points in the contest, leading all scorers. Tupelo also had a pair of nice young prospects in 2019 Jalancia Kohlheim and 2020 Che'mya Carouthers. Lafayette was led by unsigned senior, Shaniyah Buford, who had help from her younger sister, 2020 Azariah Buford. The duo of guards both have nice game with plenty of untapped talent.

Riverdale High School (TN) vs. Hoover High School (AL) was another exciting match-up in the classic. Hoover found themselves ahead by two at halftime, but Riverdale finished the game on a 23-9 run that proved to be the difference in the end as Riverdale won 52-43. Hoover put together a nice team effort, more so on the defensive side, that kept them in the game until the final minutes. Hoover had eight players score in the contest, but none reached double figures. The fourth quarter surge by Riverdale was led by Tennessee signee, Anastasia Hayes, and MTSU commit, Alexis Whittington. The two combined for 12 of the teams 14 points in the final quarter. Whittington also recorded her 1,000th career point in the game.

The following are some of the standouts from the event:

Belmont High School (Belmont, MS)

Claire Maroon (2018, 6'0" F) - Maroon came away as the top unknown prospect for the event. Maroon had the most impressive performance going for 37 points in a hotly contested win. Her size allows her to score around the basket, but she is also capable of knocking down perimeter shots consistently. She displayed a high basketball IQ and showed she had the potential to play at the Division I level.

Briarcrest Christian School (Eads, TN)

Morgan Hunt (2017, 5'11" F) - Hunt displayed strength in the post, finishing through contact. The forward scored the majority of her points in the paint, doing so by finishing on both sides of the rim on multiple occasions. She held her own defensively, competing for most of the rebounds and coming away with several as well.

Savanna Owens (2018, 5'7" PG) - Owens is a true PG who sees the floor well, but is also capable of putting up her own share of the points. She does an outstanding job of seeing the floor in transition and distributing the ball with good timing. Owens had a solid game leading her team to the four-point win.

Choctaw Central (Pearl River, MS)

Kaedre Denson (2019, 5'11" F) - Denson was very impressive in her game against Hamilton Heights. Denson found herself up against the 6'6" Hamilton Heights forward, Cardosa, but held her own and forced Cardosa into foul trouble. Denson's game around the basket was very impressive finishing with both hands after fundamental pump fakes. Denson proved she is capable of being at least a mid-major prospect.

Hamilton Heights (Chattanooga, TN)

Amber Hunt (2017, 5'8" G) - The Alabama State signee had one of her more impressive games this weekend. Hunt knocked down some big 3's in the midst of Choctaw Central's run to stay in the game. Her leadership capabilities were exceptionally noticable.

Elizabeth Balogun (2018, 6'0" G) - Balogun and Hunt led the way for Hamilton Heights in the scoring column with 21 apiece. Whereas Hunt scored the majority of her points on 3's, Balogun scored her points in a variety of ways. Balogun continues to be an intriguing prospect that is exciting to watch every time she takes the floor.

Tupelo High School (Tupelo, MS)

Che'mya Carouthers (2020, 5'9" G) - Carouthers was the most intriguing young prospect at the event. The strong guard showcased an above average skill-set making her a promising prospect. Carouthers knocked down multiple 3's and countered with strong attacks to the basket. Carouthers showed signs of being a potential BCS prospect.
